I Saw a Bear on the Locator Trail

You've got to be ready for that one. When they say "Hike In" they really mean it. Less than 2 miles, but it's up and down all the way. In a couple of places I felt like the only way to get away from a bear would be to do what Rambo did in "First Blood". When you look over the edge of the trail, you're looking down at pine tree tops.

One time we did. Luckily it was a baby up a tree. Noone realized what it was until we had the pictures developed. I'm glad it didn't cry out because we wouldn't have gotten away. There were about 10 of us on the trail by the beaver dam, it's very narrow, nowhere to run, and I was carrying the fish we caught. Nice catch too, some really nice largemouths and a couple of northerns.

You have to rent a canoe (best) or rowboat before you go there. It's only $10 and you get it back when you return the key. There are 4 small lakes about 1-1/4 miles or so apiece and we've only been on 2 and not even all the way. One of the maps I saw showed a big beaver dam on one end of War Club, so this year I want to get down there 1st, maybe even get over it, and into the other 2 lakes. That's a lot of paddling. Sometimes you have to do that kind of stuff yourself, tho.

Oh well, it's great just to be there. The views and fishing are terrific. Especially because you're there all by youselves.
